Kapha Dosha Type (Water & Earth)
Doshas are the biochemical energies that govern the body’s physiological and psychological functions. In Ayurveda, they represent the fundamental principles that regulate balance, structure, and transformation within the body.
Kapha dosha, composed of the water and earth elements, is responsible for stability, structure, lubrication, and cohesion.
Kapha is characterized by the following qualities (gunas):
Cold (sheeta)
Heavy (guru)
Dull / slow (manda)
Static / stable (sthira)
Smooth / oily (snigdha)
Dense (ghana)
When Kapha dosha is aggravated, digestive fire (Agni) becomes sluggish, leading to slower metabolism and impaired digestion. Despite this reduced digestive capacity, appetite may remain elevated, often resulting in overeating and further imbalance.
Excess Kapha tends to accumulate in its primary sites within the body, particularly the chest and throat, which may manifest as increased mucus or phlegm.
Common signs of aggravated Kapha include:
Feeling heavy, fatigued, or lethargic after meals
Experiencing a slow or dull digestion
Weight gain, with difficulty losing excess weight
A general sense of low energy and sluggishness
